For further reading, check this awesome post from INF News about how DJs rank in the Top 100. “The most controversial this year is the sudden increase of Chinese faces on the list. Many domestic music fans questioned: More and more Chinese DJs are on the list, does it mean that “rice circle culture” has invaded the electronic voice circle? Some foreign netizens even tweeted: “You should do a Chinese Top 100 so we can have a real top 100 without all these fakes” … “Following an increase of 480% in 2020, 15% of the total 1.3 million votes this year are from China Voting platform.” It continues to outline both shady practices and encouraging facts about the DJ Mag list in China.

In 2018 He participated in the Chinese EDM TV show “即刻电音”, which propelled him into popularity as his music received praise from Alan Walker during the show.

#99: DEXTER KING

DJ Mag’s description of Dexter is spot-on: “Hugely popular in China and rapidly becoming an international draw, Dexter King (real name Longwen Wang) mixes influences from EDM, hip-hop and pop into his chart-friendly productions and club-filling DJ sets. Discovering dance music through the work of Don Diablo and Avicii, he got into DJing in 2008 when his friend let him have a go on their CDJs in a bar, and he’s since been on an upward trajectory.”

He has several releases on Monstercat, which highlight a unique style from others on the label, and certainly from other Chinese producers. He also has a DJ residency at MASTER, one of the biggest clubs in Shanghai. Dexter is a true musician at heart; having excelled at piano, guitar, saxophone and drums at a very young age, his finely tuned ear for track selection and innate musical ability quickly translated into China-wide performances.
